In metallurgical operations, several types of industrial accidents occur frequently. The four most common scenarios include:
Explosions caused by high-temperature molten metal splashes
Blast furnace collapse leading to explosions, fires, and toxic exposure
Pulverized coal dust explosions
Gas-related fires and explosions
Among these, molten metal splash accidents are some of the most typical and dangerous. They can cause severe injuries or even fatalities. So, what should be done if molten metal leakage occurs?
How to Respond to Molten Metal Leakage
For minor leakage, safely block and contain the molten metal using dry sand or soil. This prevents the metal from spreading or flowing into water-accumulated areas—especially critical in semi-enclosed workspaces.
If molten metal ignites combustible materials, extinguish the fire using dry sand or other refractory materials.
Never use water, CO₂ extinguishers, or water-based extinguishers. Contact between molten metal and liquid causes instant vaporization and violent explosions.
Workers in high-radiation, high-temperature, and molten metal splash-risk areas must be equipped with proper molten-metal-splash-resistant protective gear.
When liquid comes into contact with molten metal, it rapidly turns to steam and can create a high-energy explosion. This exposes workers to extreme temperatures, causing severe or fatal burns.
MetalStoper® —Protection You Can Rely On
The flame-resistant performance of MetalStopper® comes from the inherent structure of its fibers. It does not diminish with repeated washing. The fabric does not burn, melt, or drip when exposed to flame, ensuring long-lasting safety.
During operation, molten metal splashes and sparks can adhere to and burn through ordinary garments—including common flame-retardant cotton and aramid fabrics (as demonstrated in the video).
MetalStopper®, however, offers exceptional molten metal repellency. When it encounters molten metal, the droplets do not stick—they slide off instantly, preventing burn-through.
Certified Multi-Standard Protection
Tested and certified to:
ASTM F1959,EN ISO 11612
It provides effective resistance against:
Molten aluminum up to D3 level
Various molten metal liquids up to E3 level
