An arc flash occurs when electric current breaks through the air, creating a high-energy spark that lasts less than a second—but the consequences are devastating.
Extremely Hot
The core temperature of an arc flash can reach up to 20,000°C, which is four times hotter than the surface of the sun. It also releases intense thermal radiation and electromagnetic energy capable of igniting or melting regular clothing.
Multi-Dimensional Hazards
Arc flashes produce extreme heat, intense light, loud noise, and pressure waves. The molten metal splashes can cause fatal burns, the noise can lead to temporary or permanent hearing loss, and the flash can cause momentary visual impairment.
